What is EhList.ca?

Frequently asked questions about Canada's SaaS directory.

What is EhList.ca?

EhList.ca is the definitive directory of Canadian SaaS companies. We track 420+ Canadian software businesses across 20 categories — from accounting and analytics to HR, e-commerce, and cybersecurity — and score each one for how Canadian it actually is.

The goal: make it easy for Canadian businesses, developers, and buyers to find genuine Canadian software alternatives to the US tools they're probably already using.

Why does it matter whether software is Canadian?

Data hosted on US servers is subject to US jurisdiction — including US subpoenas and law enforcement access under laws like the Patriot Act. For many Canadian businesses, that's a compliance and sovereignty problem.

Canada's updated privacy law, Bill C-27, is raising the bar further. And beyond legal risk, there's a genuine Buy Canadian rationale: software spend that stays in Canada supports Canadian workers and the Canadian tech economy.

Most buyers want to use Canadian tools — they just don't know which ones are actually Canadian.

The Eh Score — How We Rate

Every company gets an Eh Score from to . It's a simple count: one point for each of five yes/no questions. Five maple leaves = fully Canadian. Two or three means they meet some criteria but not all.

The five factors:

  • Canadian-founded — Was the company started in Canada by Canadian founders?
  • Canadian-owned — Is it still independently Canadian-owned, not acquired by a foreign parent?
  • Data hosted in Canada — Does the company actually store your data on Canadian servers?
  • Canadian dev/support team — Is the primary development and support team based in Canada?
  • PIPEDA compliance — Do they explicitly comply with Canada's federal privacy law?

Each "yes" = 1 point. A score of 5/5 means they hit every factor. A 2/5 might still be a great product — it just means less of it is genuinely Canadian. You decide what matters for your situation.

Scores are based on public information (company websites, LinkedIn, press releases, corporate filings) and updated when we learn things change.

How do listings work? Are they paid?

EhList.ca is an editorial directory. Listings are free. We research and add companies ourselves, and we also accept submissions from founders.

Scores and listing details are based on public information — company websites, LinkedIn, press releases, funding announcements, and corporate filings. We update listings when we learn of changes (new ownership, data centre moves, etc.).

Companies cannot pay to change their score, rank, or inclusion. If a listing is wrong, we want a correction and we update it.

How do I get my company listed?

If you're a Canadian SaaS founder, submit your company here. It's free. We review submissions, verify the basics, and add qualifying companies within a few business days.

To qualify, your company must be Canadian-founded or have substantial Canadian operations. We don't list companies with no genuine Canadian connection just because they serve Canadian customers.

Something on my listing is wrong. How do I fix it?

Use the "Did we get something wrong?" link on your company's page to send us a correction. We take accuracy seriously and turn around corrections quickly. You can also reach us at [email protected].
